pc crashes after 15 mins browsing

by rotisman / July 3, 2004 4:18 AM PDT

Am i missing something obvious or is it more serious. My friends pc crashes after browsing on the internet after 15 minutes yet if you just connect and don't browse - no problems - doesn't crash at all then.
He has had his hard drive formatted and windows reinstalled, a new modem fitted and the problem is still there.
When it crashes it's not a blue screen but multi coloured???
any ideas anyone please

Try this test -> Remove the case cover and see if you get more minutes. If so, heat can be the suspect. Reasons abound from a failed CPU fan to some heat sensitive component.

In closing, be sure no Parasites are on the machine. Read http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/

Having had no introduction to your machine and what it consists of, the problem you describe above seems to be that appropriate video adapter and perhaps motherboard drivers are simple not there or are not working correctly. Were they installed?

Browse with what?

When it crashes it's not a blue screen but multi coloured?

When it "crashes" what comes next other than telling about this "multi coloured screen"?

Recap. Nod to Texas.

Cursorcowboy's comment and the rainbow colored screen led me to recap what little we know of the machine and even less of the person who install Windows.

A frightening issue that "Tech" runs across many times a day is that most are unaware that most people are blissfully unaware that Microsoft doesn't fetch drivers for the motherboard or other components. They may fetch a driver for the video card or modem that doesn't work, but they will just ignore that a motherboard driver package or an out of date BIOS.

Slipshod installations make for flighty operation of the machine.

Your post with gritty details of the machine and what was installed may point to some omission.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
