PC can't get past loading screen

Apr 5, 2011 6:08AM PDT

The other night we had a powercut in our house (before which point my PC was working perfectly fine) and so eventually we turned the power back on and ever since then every time I turn on my PC it stalls at the loading screen that just says 'Compaq' and has the options to use the keyboard to select the loading things. Problem here is the keyboard won't register as turned on and I don't understand what has happened :S

Seems like some hardware is fried.

Find a trusted repair shop and let them find the broken part(s).

it has happened before though, and it fixed itself after a couple of days. But it has been like 4 days now. Do you think it might fix itself?

I don't think so.

How much longer are you going to wait?

I don't know

I don't want to pay silly amounts for things to be replaced so probably a few more days. Not sure!

It can be fried also, and it's one of the easiest parts to exchange.

It's possible that your BIOS settings are corrupted.
Unplug the computer, open it up and locate the CMOS battery on the motherboard. It's a small watch type disc battery (usually a 2032).
Remove the battery from its holder and wait 30 or 30 minutes.
Reinsert the battery and restart the computer.

Are you able to go into CMOS page? Or start the computer without the Compaq logo ?
Starting the computer without the Compaq Logo will help you to determine where the problem lies. Simply bcoz once the memory check completes, it will check for hard drives and CD/DVD ROM. If the drives failed to be initialized, then it might be possible to track down the root cause of the problems.
