1. Did you replace the old power supply with a same or higher wattage? i.e. If it was 430W before did you atleast replace it with another 430W or higher power supply?
2. You mentioned "the power supply smoked and died". It is possible that a short was created some where and that fried your hard drive or visa versa.
I have a home brew 1.1 ghz Athlon PC which ran fine for 4 years and then the power supply smoked and died.
After replacing the power supply the PC would not recognize the HD. Installed another HD and all worked well. Tried to install the original drive as a slave and the BIOS could not find the drive. Any ideas/software I can use to rescue some of the data from the failed drive?
