Question

PC Buzzing Constantly

Feb 17, 2014 7:56AM PST

Hello.

I have an HP Pavilion p7-1108p desktop, running Windows 7 64-bit.

I've recently installed a GeForce GT 610 video card and an LG DVD optical drive, with all proper drivers in place. Since then, whenever the computer is on, a constant buzzing sound occurs. I believe the sounds are coming from one of the fans, but I'm not 100% sure if the fan in the power supply, the CPU fan, or the video card's fan is to blame.

I haven't found a way to adjust the fan speed of the video card fan through Windows, and I'm not certain of how to adjust fan speeds of the other two.

I gave the PC a thorough dusting with canned air prior to installing the card, and I made sure everything was tightly screwed in and connected. To my knowledge, there was nothing loose or brushing against one of the fans.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
When I had a similar problem, I removed the cover

and got as close as I could to the various fans. In my case it was an exhaust fan in the side panel.

Once you found that, what was the problem, and how was it fixed?

Thanks.

You can buy those fans & replace them

The exhaust fans are not expensive, usually under $20 at the most. Some plug into a regular plug from the psu and some plug into the motherboard, so you need to know which you have, but it's pretty easy to replace them.

Answer
Unplug and Clean fan

If you have little knowledge or experience in assemble and dissembling computer parts then unplug fans. Clean those fans. Then plug again to see that blades are getting obstructed by anything or not? I hope the may be solved this way.
