Question

PC Boot Issues From USB Flash Drive (Win7 to Win10)

May 4, 2017 7:13AM PDT

I recently encountered a problem with my OS, leading me to attempt a fresh install of Windows. My previous windows versionn was 7 Ultimate, I am now attempting to boot a copy of a Windows 10 ISO on a USB Flash Drive.

The problem is that despite selecting the flash drive as 1st in boot priority through bios, the system is still booting from the HDD. I have already tried removing the HDD from the boot queue altogether, leading me to a screen which reads: "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in slected boot device and press a key". Upon pressing a key the same prompt is issued.

Rig is as follows:
MSI Z77A-G43
Intel i3 Processor (Sandybridge)
Nvidia 570 GPU
Hyperx 2 x 4gb sticks.

Answer
That tells me the USB may not be bootable.

Which method did you use to make this stick?

Be sure to use Microsoft's Media Creation Kit.

Media Creation Kit did not work.

I had a predownloaded ISO file which I was using. I tried using the Media Creation Kit, however it did not work with my serial number.

Rufus Will Convert The ISO To a Bootable USB
May 7, 2017 10:31AM PDT

As I stated in my other post, Rufus will allow you to create the bootable USB and it will allow you to install Windows 10 as long as the computer will correctly boot a USB drive. As to activating the operating system once it's installed, that's a different problem which you didn't state in your original post. IF the pre-downloaded ISO is a something other than the approved, original Microsoft installation ISO, then there isn't support for such an install.

Hope this helps.
