Question

PC blew up, power surge?

May 1, 2017 1:37AM PDT

Could a power surge/spike caused by an electrician messing with the wiring in the building where I live cause my PC to blow up? Electrician was doing some heavy rewiring and cut the power before warning me, and my machine caught on fire suddenly and burnt out. He's saying this could not have been caused by anything he did. Seems too much of a coincidence to me.

I'd have to know more.

Most PCs today take from 100 to 240VAC on the input so to blow up your PC you'd also lose light bulbs and a lot more in the building if they did something bad.

My answer? No.

Not Impossible, but...

Seems really unlikely unless he somehow created a massive electrical surge or your PSU was defective in some way.
