Question

PC Black screen restart issue

Mar 14, 2020 1:04PM PDT

Hello, recently I purchased a rtx 2060 nvidia gpu for my desktop. Ever since then when I attempt to play games such as Modern Warfare, my pc crashes to black screen and restarts upon loading into a multiplayer Lobby. I'm happy to provide any information needed to help solve this issue. Please let me know how I can help you.

There are many discussions about this.

Common causes are:

1. The PSU was not upgraded to handle this new load. In short (pun intended) you want an ample PSU with a single +12V rail. This is widely discussed so to get this one out of the way you supply the forum with the make, model or the PSU or better yet a link to it's maker's web page.

2. Sometimes it's just drivers. I use https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html (DDU.) This is well discussed on what is and how to use so I pause here.

There could be other factors like an out of date BIOS which in the case of cards that REQUIRE UEFI BIOS COMPLIANCE that after we work the other areas we look at this and more with a Web SPECCY report. You can share that report using this link: https://www.piriform.com/docs/speccy/using-speccy/publishing-a-speccy-profile-to-the-web

A Speccy reading.

1. BIOS is dated. Read https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z370-GAMING-PLUS
Always check yourself if this is the right page for your PC.

2. ST1000DM010-2EP102 is showing signs that you find in PCs with complaints. The values in 01 and 07 have been linked to BSODs and other crashes. Remove this drive until you get the PC stable. Personal note: I don't bother having such a drive in this condition in any PC at home or office.

Bad Drive

So you are suggesting that the state of the drive in those sectors leads to a lot of crashing and the way to fix this is to get a new hard drive or solid state? Just for clarification before I go run out to the store. Would a different drive I purchase contain the same issue?

It can.

Sorry if you feel shortchanged on this area. There are many priors here but let's see another test.

USERBENCHMARK.COM has one and let's see how the drive fares with that. It's not a for-sure test but better than half the time I find the HDD performance fails. Not every time but far too often.

As to the HDD or SSD your choice but avoid that make unless you get it on a site that has no questions asked refunds.

-> I'd update the BIOS and do that userbenchmark.com test first. Share that result if you can.

Updated Bios and New SSD

So Ive updated my bios and installed a new SSD, issue still persists. Here is a snap shot of my benchmark scores however. https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/25486711
At this point I really am not sure what could be causing the issue.

Here's an example with same board, RTX 2060 and XMP issues.

My system has no issue with letting me run XMP it seems. I'm not sure why this issue seems to happen when loading in maps for multiplayer lobbies. Could it be something to do with the way my system writes the client?

Then it's back to the motherboard maker.

To ask if they support your choice of RAM as well as if they will replace the board. By your reply I take it you tried it in the other modes and no change. This sadly means this is all I can offer.

The question about the crash during loading maps does point to RAM as well as the game in question.

Others have written to "turn off integrated graphics in my BIOS." That's game specific so I would be late in mentioning that.
