PC "audio out" to stereo receiver "audio in " causing HUM

Jan 28, 2005 12:02AM PST

I like to stream audio from my pc to my stereo receiver. I am getting a low hum from speakers. The distance might be the problem ( approx 35 ft.)
Is there a workable solution?
Thanks Pablo

You are problaly right about the distance.

If you are not using monster cable..then maybe you should in this situation; it might help; but don't know if it's worth the cost.

I am curious..why so far away? As far as other solutions goes; I am sure there are but without knowing the whole picture, it's not that easy to suggest other mean. Good luck.

PC "audio out" to stereo receiver "audio in " causing HUM

There is something call a ground loop that is caused by the source on one AC circit and the Reciver on a different AC source since most homes have 230v volt service or 120v-gound-120v if the 2 components are powered on oppsite sides of the ground there is a chance
of a 60Hz hum occuring. Better cables may help. But try running an power extension cord from where the reciver is plugin and plug the PC into this cord, this will put both
on the SAME circit. See if this helps. John

easy fix for pc out audio hum

The 60 cycle hum that you are getting is caused by poor grounding. The best solution is to go to you local car or home stero place and get a ground loop isolator (I bought mine from the local car stero place for $10 dollars) but you can also get one from Radio Shack (270-054) for 16.99.

This was after spending lots of money on a new soundcard and a set of audiophile quality cables...

Ground loop question........Please help
Apr 8, 2005 11:25AM PDT

I am having the same issue with a MAJOR hum/feedback thru my stereo speakers when i am connecting RCA connectors to an auxillary input on my receiver coming from my computer. I went to Radio Shack and they told me it was due to those cables not being shielded...therefore, selling me a sheilded cable with goldplated adaptor on the end. Unfortunately, I got home and tried this and still got the big bad humming noise. Can you explain what this Ground Loop is, where it is connected and to what it is connected? sorry for sounding like the novice...but i guess i am!!

I have a Harman Kardon AVR II receiver and there is a screw down button on the back that reads "Ground" ( i assumed this was for the turntable connection) There is also the 2 AM radio connections that read "AM Loop".

Thanks for the help.....clueless in North Carolina

THANK YOU!!! This was the answer!!!

Thanks for giving me the info to pick up the ground loop isolator. The speaker noise was driving me crazy. The only thing was, Radio Shack seemed uninterested in solving this problem, and kept trying to sell me way more expensiveitems, which didn't work, such as monster power surge strips and monster cables, etc. After I finally went there and bought this Ground Loop Isolator, because of your post, they really didn't want to hear about how this was the solution - so I wish I could have bought it elsewhere! But in anycase, thank you very much for the answer!
