hmm

Could be that it only has 1GB of RAM or that he has two antivirus programs running. When does it hang? Any specific programs that make it hang?

Having a 1GB of Ram is pretty Decent for a PC. This could be a software conflict or you have a virus in your PC.

Minimum RAM

1 GB is bare minimum. Minimum will allow you to run the programs, it won't give you unfettered speed or response. If you have multiple processes running in the background and graphics intensive program in the forground it will slow down.

Also, check the hard drive free space. You need a minimum of 10% of the hard drive free for memory management. Less than that and you will have slow downs and hanging.
