General discussion

PC-1 slow up - high down speed, PC-2 High down - up speed

Jun 2, 2009 2:22AM PDT

Hello everybody and thank you for trying to help, here is my problem.

I have 2 desktop PCs connected to the same router, PC1 via wireless, PC2 via network cable.
PC1 has 7000-10000kb/s download speed but 1000-1500kb/s upload speed.
PC2 has 7000-10000kb/s download speed and 5000-7000kb/s upload speed.

So my question, why PC1 has slower upload speed than PC2?

I see it. Wired versus wireless.

Bingo. This is not an offer to duplicate web content about how wired is full duplex, faster and more.

Im using a Wireless N USB Adapter TEW-644UB and a Wireless N Router TEW-652BRP so it should be as fast as wired.

Since wifi is half duplex and other considerations.

Plus the tests show it is slower all you can hope for is the members do a little more research about wired vs wifi.

Is there anything on windows vista that may cap my upload speed?

Both PCs have Vista Home Premium

Yes.

And since we could always connect up the cable for a test run, one could do that test. I must stop short of duplicating web content about why wifi is slower. I noted just one of a long list of reasons.

Are you researching this or did you want someone to post the reasons here?

You write wireless N!

In this forum a member made a discovery that setting the router to 802.11g only resulted in faster transfers than 802.11n. In their case it was caused by different makes of router and client devices.

Sorry I didn't remember that sooner.
