Paying for Google & Flickr Rant

Paying for Gmail

I depend on Google SO MUCH. I am nearing 1 gig in my Gmail. I don't have a lot of money, but if Google were to release a service that allowed me to pay for Gmail, I would because I depend on it so much.

At the moment Google is offering Gmail for your domain. I have not signed up for this yet, reluctant on doing so because I like having everything in my one Gmail account.

How much would I pay? That is a good question. What I think Google should do is *IF* they are going to start charging for all of their services, maybe premium services, they should wrap it into a bundle. Ooooh, wait...doesn't that sound like an OS? Hmmm...

Flickr Rant

Today I learned something. I had not realized it before. However, I did not know that Flickr would only show 200 of your most recent photos. I was under the impression that they would show all your photos, BUT, you could only upload so much data per month.

I love Flickr because it is a community and you can post comments on people's pictures, etc.

<sigh> I suppose I'll have to start uploading double time. Put some on Flickr and all on Yahoo! Photos.

Ouch, are you serious about this Flickr thing? I use Flickr for online photo storage. Are the photos still there somehow?

Don't worry

Nothing is lost. Flickr says that all the photos are still there, just not being shown, only the newest 200. I uploaded some photos last month and I got to looking and they were gone today, SO, I uploaded them again, and then some more disappeared, thats when I realized something was up. Is the word extortion? I don't feel like googling, so that term works for me, lol.

Anyways, if you are worried I lost my photos...don't be, I back up my photos on a regular basis using ... you guessed it Google's Picasa to DVD. I also upload my photos to Winkflash which is where I order photos from. I also still have them all on my network drive and hard drive...so, I feel pretty safe.

But geez, that really pissed me off that they done that. INFURIATES ME, especially since I can't afford whatever they want me to pay right now!

Whew!

whew! You scared me.

And yes I can agree with you. I have organized all my photos into groups so I never noticed that they do that. But for someone who doesn't know this they might freak out because their 201st picture is missing.

Andy,

That's one of the limitations of a free account on Flickr. The pics are still there; they're just not accessible.

When you convert to pro, you get a whole bunch of bandwidth per month, unlimited storage, and no ads on your site.

I went pro in late December when I got my new digital camera, and am very happy.

Regards,
Wes

Gmail for your domain?

Andy,
That GMail for your domain thing sounds awesome. I love Gmail, and would love to have it on my domain. Where did you hear about it? Any idea how it will work? Any links to sites with details?

Thanks,
Andrew
