Question

past 30 days, new windows 7 will not install on windows 10

Mar 5, 2016 1:55PM PST

Had terrible problem with windows 10 and windows 8.1 .. computer came with 8.1. Microsoft spent two days and completely reinstalled 8.1; it still was terrible; thought when upgrade came to windows 10, it would be better. It was not, at least for me. Kept trying. Finally after 30 days was up, decided to go back to windows 7, but it was gone. Someone gave me a brand new Windows 7 Pro DVD. I tried to install it according to directions. It was in the computer, but would not install. I had previously "chatted" with a Microsoft tech person about this. Still didn't work. One thing I need is drivers. Have a C55D-A5381 Toshiba laptop. Have trouble finding drivers among other things.

Really need help on this one. It just is NOT working. Hope someone can help. Thanks.

Clarification Request
Tell exactly what your install routine is.
Mar 5, 2016 5:02PM PST

Laptops are so picky about the install that I can't give you the step by step on all models. Only a guide. And then you find folk that are royally upset how much work it is. This is why I suggest using the restore media on a blank HDD. That always works unless there is a hardware fault.

So tell more. Did you happen to trip up the install by formatting the drive ahead of the install. It must be blank from what I've seen.

Install Routine of NEW Win Pro 7 over Windows 10
Mar 8, 2016 8:14PM PST

My install routine was this:

1 - I saved necessary files to a DVD

2 - I followed the directions on the cardboard folder that came with the Win Pro 7.

3 - Clicked the START button. Then clicked HELP AND SUPPORT.

4 - Visited windows.Microsoft.com/windows-7-get-started to help getting started.

5 - Visited windows.microsoft.com/windows-7-support for general help questions.

6 - Inserted the Windows 7 Professional DVD with Service Pack 1 and 64-bit software

7 - The DVD started. It showed up on the screen, but it didn't go any further.

8 - I ran https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=20

9 - I ran: Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor from:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=20

10 - The results were 14 compatible programs.

11 - then I got an error, and I think it was x06 or similar. Wrote it down. Cannot find it. Could
not find a work around.

12 - Also could not find Toshiba win 7 drivers.

13 - So, I'm stuck. There has to be an answer out there, but though I did a LOT of searches,
including a Microsoft forum, I didn't get the help I needed.

14 - Also ran a Microsoft malware tool. No problems.

2 problems.

1. http://support.toshiba.com/support/modelHome?freeText=1200006765 doesn't seem to give Windows 7 drivers. It may not be supported.

2. If the HDD was not blank, the Windows 7 DVD and installer may hang. Try it with a blank HDD.

Frankly I'd go with the factory issued OS and let it go to 10. I can use Classic Shell if I don't like the start menu systems.

These are known to be horrible performers. May as well write it so it's on the table.
