Password protection removal

May 30, 2006 12:18PM PDT

4 years ago I installed a password protection program called Absolutelock 1.1 on a WIN ME machine. It appears to load before WIN begins to boot. Now I want to network this machine and the program is creating problems so I need to remove it. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to do that. It does not appear to reside in the Registry. Any suggestions??

The author provided instructions for removal here, which require either the original password or the original RescueDisk. If you don't have either of those keys, then you'll have to go digging into the partition table unless you're able/willing to simply reformat the drive.

Hope this helps,
John

Do not want to reformat drive if it can be helped. Do not have original Rescue Disk since computer is now with its third user and in its third location. I do have the original Password, however, a "Find" search through My Computer and the protected HDD does not turn up the program. Using START and RUN with ABSLOCK.EXE typed in also does not bring up the program. Any ideas?
