Question

Password protected mac hard drive from broken laptop

Aug 19, 2012 8:04AM PDT

A friend of mine has a broken mac laptop that he needs the data off of. I haven't worked with macs to much but I'm giving it a shot. I have Red Hat running on a virtual machine with the hard drive connected via USB. I can see the folders and user inside except it won't let me transfer over any of the music or photo's(the only things he wants) it says I don't have the permissions to do it. This is driving me crazy I don't know what to try next.

You put it in some case and plug it into another Apple Mac. If they lost the password then they learn a lesson.

Did you ask www.drivesavers.com for a quote?

I have the password but I'm using red hat 16 is there a way to change the permission or take the password off from red hat or does it have to be Mac OS? Because I don't have Mac

But if I was doing recovery I would use an Apple computer. I do not have any workaround other than to get it done by drivesavers.com
