You can set an EFI password, which will prevent anyone from booting anything but the HDD without a password, but it may have unintended consequences if you want to use something like Boot Camp. Of course if you have physical access to the machine, then that's easily defeated, and someone could just take the HDD out and wipe it as well. A Kensington lock won't do anything to prevent the removal of the bottom case to let you access the HDD.
The long and short of it is, if someone has physical access to a computer (any computer), there's very little you can do security wise.
Hi, I'm getting ready to go to college and I'm concerned about the security of my macbook pro 2011.
I bought a kensington lock and I installed Prey.
check out www.preyproject.com if you're curious.
But anyways, prey can easily be defeated by wiping the hard drive.
How do i stop a thief from wiping my hard drive?
I would like to password protect it, but I don't want to interfere with the convenience of not having to enter a password every time I turn on my computer.
Does anyone have a solution to my problem or other security suggestions?
