Password for Jumpdrive

Sep 29, 2005 7:21AM PDT

My boss got a jump drive last week so he could take stuff home and work on it. But he is scared he might lose the drive since it is so small. He wants to be able to protect what is on the jump drive. Is there any way you can setup a password for the drive. So that when it is plugged into a computer you have to enter the password before you can use it.

Some Lexar Jumpdrives are packaged with security software. Some models are able to use security software that Lexar provides on its download page.

Which model do you have:

The alternative is to use third party data encryption software for USB flash drives. Look for data or file encryption programs on Download.com. You probably will get some good recommendatins in this thread.

I have been using Cryptainer LE; the free edition allows me to create 25MB vaults on hard drives and USB drives.

Also, if you are going to spend money on third-party security software, you might want to consider just buying a new drive with included security software. I like the SanDisk Cruzer line of USB flash drives. Most of the models come with utilities, including "CruzerLock" security software.
