I'm currently running windows 98 on a gateway G6-350. Whenever I turn it on it ask for a password. I've never placed a password on this system and it was working fine up to a few days ago. What can I do?

Click "Cancel" and Windows should load as usual.

Now search for files called *.PWL and rename them to *.OLD.

Reboot and when presented with the logon prompt DON'T type anything, just press ENTER.

The logon prompt should reappear.

Cheers,

Zee

If it is a networking password prompt, go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network. In the box labeled "Primary Network Logon", change it to "Windows Logon". If this is not the problem, and your problem is a Windows Logon prompt, just press Enter when it comes up, and you'll never see it again. (Unless someone else has been on your computer and has created another user.)
