For years I used

HP USB FORMAT UTILITY

I'm sure there are other tools but I keep coming back to this one.

Re: partitions

Use the Disk Management tool of your OS. As you don't tell what that is (Linux, Mac OS X, Windows 98 SE, 2000, ME, XP, Vista, 7) I can't give instructions on how to run that.

HP's utility is good BUT ...

I used it just last week on such a drive.

It wiped out the partitions and away it went.
