Partition Table Repair

Sep 21, 2009 12:47PM PDT

I have a satellite a205 s5879 and it freezes on the screen that says toshiba leading innovation. I can get into the Windows Recover Environment, but I have to completely disable the Hard Drive in BIOS. Under the startup repair I get the following problem signatures: Problem Signature 04 - 65537 Problem Singature 06 - No OS Installed Problem Signature 09 - Fix Partition Table Problem Signature 10 - 15299.

Under the startup diagnosis and repair log I get the following session details:

System Disk = \Device\Harddisk0
Windows directory =
Auto Chk Run = 0
Number of Root Causes = 1

Root Cause Found

No OS files on disk
Repair Action: Partition Table Repair
FAILED - error code - 0x3bc3

When I run the bootrec/RebuildBcd it "Successfully scanned Windows installations.
Total Identified Windows installations: 1
[1] C:\Windows
Add installation to boot list? Y,n,all

When I hit yes I get:

The requested system device cannot be found.I get this same response when I try to run any of the bcdedit commands.

When I first enter the Windows RE, it scans for windows installations and I get Failed to save startup options.
There is nothing listed under Operating System in the system recovery options dialog box. When I click on Load Drivers, I can navigate to my C drive and see all of my folders.

I have exhausted most solutions. Is my Drive toast? If so is there a way to back up the files on there without being able to boot? I am desperate and this is urgent. Three active projects are on that drive that have weeks of work put into them. I am trying to avoid losing those files. Is there any solution?

The drive is not toast

You'll need to externally mount the drive and fix the mbr. There is a livecd tool called ubcd with such to help.

Another solution is to resize the partition and then install a small linux image to the disk. Grub will then have windows listed as a boot option.

I know this is an old post but, I am having the exact same problem. How did you fix your computer?
Thanks

"completely disable the Hard Drive in BIOS."

Did you " completely disable the Hard Drive in BIOS"?

Let me write a little about this old post. Since they did that, the Microsoft advice is totally wrong. It should have noted the hard drive was missing and not have issued such advice.

Since you have the exact same issue I suggest you pop in a new hard drive, re-enable it, reload the OS and then try that old drive in some USB case.
