Partition Query

If I partition a drive that already has some data on it am I likely to lose any of that data if I create a partition using about half of the free space?

That's a fairly serious disk edit. But wait! Did you just reveal you don't have a backup? Hard disks die. Not if they do, but they all will.

I've got 138 gigs of 200 free and I want to create a drive of about 80 gigs to install Vista on and try a dual boot system. I'd certainly save anything of importance.
