Partition Magic - Missing Drives

Mar 16, 2005 1:09AM PST

I installed partition magic 8 for XP. I wanted to merge drives C and D (NTFS). I made a boot diskette. Merged the drives and rebooted. All I get is a blinking cursor. No response on laptop. If I use the diskette, I can get to an A prompt, use DOS commands and launch pmagic.exe program.

No other drives can be found. Cannot use Windows XP installation CD either. My computer is completely hosed. Help please.

Why can't you use that?

PM is not without risk and all the new versions admonish the user to backup. Everyone does, so now we just need to install XP and then restore from your backup.

Maybe PM wrote some wrong info in mbr. In DOS mode clear mbr with command fdisk/mbr (Win 98-2000 boot diskette needed)
If you want to install Windows in DOS execute winnt.exe from folder "\i386"
