partition magic 8.0 error 1611

get error 1611 with partition magic 8.0 on when trying to merge two ntfs 20gb partitions from same drive into one 40gb
says bad file name, 9 (4Cool

this is some MFT error on the ntfs drive but do not know how to fix

chkdsk /f was no help

I would be back up the boot partition onto another drive with a disk copier, boot off the new hard disk, then copying the other files from the other partition on the second drive.

I know of no software that will fix this and you seem to not called the support line for Partition Magic (hint: PM is not supplied with XP.)

I am guessing here. Did it ask for a partition name for the merge partition? If so, did you enter one?

It only asked for the folder name of where to store files from the second partition on the first one

I already sent an email to powerquest but no reply yet

I dont have enough space to copy all the files somewhere else first

Are there files on the drive that you can't lose?

If you read your posts, it becomes clear that what's on this hard drive may vanish.

Secure what you can't lose on your backup media before you lose it all.
