partition hard drive to install windows vista

do i really need to buy an expensive software to partition my hard drive
and use it only one time, how can install windows vista without those
software, can i make a partition from my os windows xp, please advise

The Partition Magic demo version is non-functional. They allow you to see what changes would be made but do not let you apply the changes until you buy the software....it will not partition your hard drive!

Thank you for letting me know. I have never used the trial as I have the full version, I just assumed that it was fuctional.

if don't want to send money on partition software, why not get a new drive? they are really cheap now.
The other option is do an upgrade of Vista from within XP, not my recomendation, but cheap out.

Iam about to replace the sata hard drive in a laptop. when I install vista on the new drive will it take care of partitioning the new drive?
