Partial Outline of Closed Window Remains on Desktop

Nov 20, 2003 12:20AM PST

I am running win-XP HE OS. Sometimes when I close a window, the right and bottom outline remain on desktop. I have tried changing the Desktop Wallpaper, but the lines remain. They clear up after rebooting. I have tried to duplicate the problem with no success - they just seem to appear at random intervals. I would appreciate any suggestions regarding a solution.

Thanks,
Ray Savage

This is typical of a video driver issue. Let me start that many are blissfully unaware that installing Windows XP does not get the latest or correct drivers for motherboard, video, audio and all other items for any machine I've seen. Attempts to use Windows Updates for drivers or that "Driver Update" button rarely fetch the correct driver either.

Still the best method is to check with your system maker to see if they have updated drivers or in the case of a user installed video card, the web site for that make/model card.

In short. Update your video card driver.

Ray,

Next time this happen you don't have to reboot.

Just Right-click the Desktop | Refresh and it's gone!

I get this sometimes and my VC has the latest drivers from ATI.

It's probably Explorer up to some mischiefs.

Cheers.

(NT) F5 works in many places. CLick on a toolbar, tap F5, Network Neightborhood, etc.
