Question

Partial Internet Access on Android Devices

Feb 20, 2016 2:12AM PST

Hardware:

Windows 10 Desktop
ISP Earthlink.net
DSL Router ZyXEL P-660 series
Netgear WNR 1000v3 WiFi Router
HP Envy 5660 Printer
OnePlus One Android 5.1 Smartphone
Dell Venue 7 Android 4.4 Tablet

The setup ZyEXL DSL Modem gets DSL from wall,.
Ethernet Up to Netgear WiFi Router
Ethernet Down to Dell Inspiron 570 Desktop
All other devices connect through WiFi

ZyXEL DSL Modem has nailed up connection and gets IP Address from ISP along with DNS Dynamically. which is passed to Netgear WiFi Router

Here's the problem. My Desktop has full internet access, e-mail, web browsers html, FTP, etc. But lately my Android devices are only partially internet connected. By this I mean I can use email apps, and apps dedicated to a specific task i.e. Facebook, You Tube, T-Mobile. These work almost flawlessly. But, regardless of the web browser I use I can only access some web sites. I can access Earthlink but I can't access Amazon.com with either Firefox, Chrome, Dashlane, Opera Beta web browser apps. I can't connect to many websites receiving various error messages. Not Found 404, Timed Out, The Proxy Server is Rejecting the requested website...etc

I've run anti-virus, anti-malware on all devices. They all come back clean.

I haven't changed configuration since I got everything working with this setup a year ago. Suddenly the Phone and Tablet can do everything but access the internet via Web Browser.

type the full link address like www.amazon.com or just abbreviated amazon.com?

I have tried both ways of typing the address. Inclusion of the formal www. has no effect. (See Other Ideas for an Update)

1. Use the DNS 8.8.8.8
2. Factory reset one of the Androids and see if it starts to work.

What is DNS 8.8.8.8 ??? I am about to do a hard reset on my phone. I've backed up all important data. I am now writing down critical passwords for Google Settings, Gmail (the same one) and CyanogenMod.

Additionally, I've had random reboots while keyboarding on Facebook and Boxer Email. After uninstall/reinstall offending apps OnePlus Support site FAQ recommends a hard reset which wipes everything an reinstalls the ROM.

I've been dreading a Factory Reset let alone a Hard Reset. But I'll let you know how it goes.
