Resolved Question

Parsons Addressbook 6.0

Dec 6, 2011 1:46AM PST

I have used this for a long time love it but now I cannot customize on the print. I have some labels I need to customize and print and every time I try to do layout it shuts down with "INVALID IMPORT DATA" Does anyone know what to do? I have updated the driver for my printer but that hasn't helped. I am desperate as all my info is on here and I don't know of another addressbook program. I HATE Word and cannot get the info imported there anyway.

Do you have a backup?

It could be your address book data might be corrupt. Do you have a backup of your address book? The program you're using is very old. You might try going to Broderbund and see what information they have on their support website.

Yes I have the address's backed up on a thumb drive. I've tried to reload it but that hasn't helped. I can't seem to find a way to totally uninstall it. OOPS just found it. had been looking under Parson's instead of just plain ole Addressbook. uninstalled now going to reinstall and see if that helps

I am using Address Book 6 on a windows 7 pro machine. I can not see my file "UHS 1964 Reunion" with Windows Explorer.. I can see all my other files. "Parker" and "reunion" I tried to shorten the one above by removing the spaces but is it still not visible. Any suggestion ??? Thanks

Broderbund

Broderbund does not have any support for Addressbook. I have searched it in the past and tried to get some help and there is none. In fact I am there again trying to maybe get an email but since my program is old, my customer info is also old and the email address I used to I don't have any more. when I tried to reregister it said my email was already in but the password is not the one I have on my list for it.

move on?
Dec 7, 2011 8:04AM PST

move on to what? I don't want to have to input all my address's again. I would like something I could export into. MS Word is a pile of junk and I can't import into it. Trying to figure out something that will work.

Which Operating System?
Dec 7, 2011 9:17PM PST

Which OS are you using? If Windows then there are other alternatives to Word, and in fact Word would not seem the appropriate application to import address book details into.

But Windows versions XP and before have their own Address Book, the file name is wab.exe and this allows "Importing" of contacts and details. Parson's Address Book should allow Exporting to various file types and the most likely to work is exporting to a .csv file, or Comma Separated Value file.

Vista and Win 7 did away with this Address Book in favour of "Contacts" which also allows importing.

If you use Parson's Address Book for emails, then your email software should also allow importing of contacts.

You said, "cannot get the info imported there anyway." If that means that Parson's fails to export, then I'm sorry to say that there are no other solutions.

Win7 64-bit Workaround for Users of Parson's Address Book
Jan 25, 2012 1:34AM PST

Like a lot of you, I'm a long time user of Parson's Address Book (v.7). I built a new PC over the holidays, moving from Win XP to WIn 7 64-bit. I found that many of my old programs - including Address Book - won't run on Win 7 64-bit. I spent a lot of time finding an answer to this dilemma because I haven't found another simple-to-use address book program. Here's my solution: I've been using Broderbund Printshop 23 for making cards, signs, etc for some time. PS 23 does run on Win 7, and it allows you to import your AB2 files from Address Book. Once this is done, Address Book looks and works exactly like it always has. Choose Tools > Edit Address Book from the top menu - and there it is. One caution: the latest version, Print Shop 3.0, has been completely reworked, and, while it will allow importing AB2 files, it will only permit you to print a full sheet of labels, not a single label - which is what I do most of the time.. Print Shop 23 is still available at the Broderbund website.

Another useful piece of information: Broderbund has been purchased by a company called Encore, so you need to visit the Encore Forum to ask questions: http://forums.encoreusa.com/ You'll find an Address Book discussion there with a very helpful moderator, Brandy redux.
