Question

Panasonic TH-50PX70A 50" Plasma TV

Apr 1, 2015 12:06AM PDT

Hi, my TV has developed red swirls around faces and background. This happens after about 30min of turning the TV on. It seems that the red color wants to take over.

Has anyone had the same problem, or could suggest a fix
The TV works fine other than that fault..

Thank You

https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&as_q=plasma+tv+red+swirls seems to point to non-user serviceable areas like power supplies and more.

But the issue of heat is something we might be able to control. Hopefully it was never put in a confined space. One time I found one inside a recessed box and my forecast is they would burn up one a year in that box. You can try canned air on the vents and be sure it is not in some overheating box.

There's also some models that a tech can adjust drive voltages but that's not something we do. Call it in and get estimates.

Thanks very much Bob for the quick reply & advice. The TV has always been on a stand in an open room, and this problem has only just started, the common factor seems to be almost exactly 25min before the red starts to take over the screen. I notice that when an ad has no red the picture is perfect.
I am on a military service pension & not in a position to replace the TV so I am pretty desperate to find a fix.Apart from that it is a great TV anyway.

Again Thank You

Try a test.

Point a fan at the back of the set. If it changes then we know it's some heat sensitive component.

Bob, I have a fan running behind the TV after removing the back panel, and it has been working for the last 2hrs without a problem.

Does that point in any direction to you

Thank You

Only that....

Only that something is sensitive to heat.

What it did do for us is to dismiss that it was some TV firmware issue. Sorry but that's about all it told us.

Ok Bob, for the moment it is running without the colour problem, but has developed another where it distorts the screen to the stage where u cannot be seen. The same as a bad ariel connection. But only on one channel..now that is strange.

Once again thanks for your kind input,

Sounds like the end is nigh.

Something's going south. Sorry but all this tells us is something is going. Plasma sets have quite a few boards. You may get more guesses at AVS Forums but for sure, there's a board change on its way.
