In my opinion you have couldn't have narrowed it down to two better choices. Both of these sets are excellent. I like the all black look also, it really makes the picture pop out at you.
Be sure you wouldn't have any problem with ambient light reflecting back off the shiny black bezel on the Pioneer, I think this unit has that piano black gloss finish.
The Panny has no tuner as you probably already know. Yes, you would have to buy the HDMI input board if you decide not to use component inputs. Suggest you check out www.visualapex.com for one of the best Panny industrial dealers in the country.
I use stands but have heard that Sanus makes excellent wall mounts. Check here for good info and an excellent dealer. I bought my Bello component rack from them.

Personally, I would give an ever so slightly edge to the Panasonic but think you should decide on features, functions and aesthetic reasons.
Here is a recent review on the 5060HD:

Okay ladies and gentleman, I think that I have narrowed the search down to these two and I need some advice...
I have already written about how I wanted to buy my father a new television for his birthday... Well, I let the cat out of the bag to him on this visit north and we both decided that instead, I would throw in $2000 and we would go for a really nice set/display (I can't deceive him and I dragged him out to look at tvs, so when questioned, I came clean)...
We saw the PRO-1130HD that the local high end store is selling for $4500 (Demo)and it blew my father and I away, but I fear it will be snatched up as my father is not yet ready to jump...
So, to save some dough off of a new Elite, we are looking at the above mentioned...
He likes the all black look, so the TH-50PX500U and TH-50PX50U are out...
I realize that with the Panny, we will need to purchase speakers and some inputs (HDMI I assume, anything else when utilizing DirectTV?)
We will be wall mounting either, so any recommendations on an articulating mount?
Any other thoughts?
Let me know...\
Thanks,
Neal
