Question

Panasonic tc-p55st50

Hi, I would like to be able to connect my tv from the digital optical output to my 2 channel stereo. I have been able to use my linear pcm dac which works ok until a netflix movie playing Dolby 5.1 is streamed. There is no menu item for the digital output to output in pcm only.

My question is, is there a digital to audio decoder that will pass both linear pcm and Dolby 5.1 to my 2 channel stereo, through the same optical output.

There are a number of decoders on amazon (Gefen, Orei, Panalong) that will decode Dolby 5.1, but it is unclear whether or not they will also pass linear pcm.

If there is one available, would anyone be able to please recommend a quality device that would not delay audio sound to the video etc.

Thank you very much.

Answer
That sounds like what receivers do.

Onkyo and others can post process from optical to a stereo setup. I'm guessing you were trying to avoid a receiver.

Did you try better Netflix players like ChromeCast, Amazon Fire Stick, Roku?

digital to audio converter

Hi, I have a stereo receiver that I plug into using rca, so I need a digital to analog to audio decoder in between the tv and stereo. The digital output of the tv would go to this converter via optical cable and then to stereo receiver via rca. I do not need surround sound, just 2 channel from my existing stereo. Thanks

That's what a recevier does.

You are asking for a convertor to do signal processing which is, well, you see what you found.
