Calibration

How would you compare the calibrated set to say THX? is it any brighter?

- Collapse -
Not totally
Jul 30, 2009 5:49AM PDT

To be honest I would say not really comparable. The THX setting is so much less accurate and almost has a yellow tint to it. It is definitely brighter, but ultimately you have to understand everything is more accurate. So it really isn't comparable to any user settings possible. I highly recommend anyone who can afford the $300-$400 or so get a professional ISF calibration. It looks so much better I am shocked.

calibration settings

Hello HatecrewDr,

I own the TC 65V10 that I bought 3 years ago and have been using the recommended calibration posted by David Katzmeir. I had to reset it today. Came back for calibration settings and read this old message board along with yours. Could you email the calibration you use?

Thanks for any help.

I've been using this setting to watch movies and TV. Would this be a good setting with my PS3 though? Currently I'm using the default game mode setting with it. Great set btw!!

Are you in Custom? Maybe those options are only available in Custom. Not sure.

Are these settings applicable to the Panasonic TC-54V10?
Also, I noted the absence of any settings for the horizontal/vertical movement of the picture, are the not adjustable or are they hidden?
It was also my understanding that the V10 series could access picture settings through Panasonic.com in the VieraCast Mode.

I have a question about Picture settings break-in period. I was told that for the first hundred hours on a Plasma TV that you should have your settings set to Standard and the Brightness level below +50 (I have it at +45).
In an CNET article about Picture settings and calibration FAQ-Ask the Editors it said "Picture characteristics on any of HDTV do shift over time and are not as accurate on sets with a few hundred or more hours on it"
QUESTION....What do I ...... continue with the Plasma break-in period ( I probably have about 70- 80 hours already on the TV) or do I implement your Panasonic TC-P50V10 test review settings now?

I was thinking the same thing
Sep 10, 2009 9:38AM PDT

I was also wondering the same thing. My friend showed me his tv. elite kuro . when it came in without the break in and later about 4 months down the line after he did 200 hours break in and there was no difference with the same settings or some others he test on the avsforums. I think people just are really overprotective of there huge investment. My friend bought his panny v10 and left the DVD paused for 5 hours with black boxes and after he realized it there was no IR( 3 days after having it)... i think its a thing of the past and the break in really not nessesary. Just enjoy your television and just becareful for the first 200 hours with black bars and tickers.. i know my boys tv did not have IR after the pausing but every set is different.

"24p Direct in" is grayed out
Oct 8, 2009 8:18AM PDT

I followed the recommended picture settings in the first post and I'm unable to change the "24 Direct in" setting to 96Hz. It seems to be stuck at 60Hz. How do I go about changing this to 96Hz? Thanks!!

96 hz

make sure your blu-ray player is putting out in 24p, then you'll be able to switch to 96 hz in the panasonic tc-pv10.

Hi
Thanks much for the settings but I saw the following differences when I pulled up my menu on my 58 inch v10.

I am using your settings (except for the HD size which I am unable to change)but wondered if you'd change any of the listed items that are not grayed out on mine.
Thanks
Tim
