Panasonic SC-AKX73 is JUNK

Apr 11, 2013 7:30AM PDT

I purchased this unit for its specs (and looks)... big mistake! What a piece of junk. From the spec sheet, and size, I expected it to rumble the floor with Bass and shake the house down... wrong again. no matter where you set the Bass, Subwoofer, Mid and Treble levels and/or the EQ all that you get is music that sounds like you were listening to it through a wall (like all of the high and low frequencies were filtered out). Every note is muffled and mushy and is missing that vibrancy and that certain something (fidelity) that makes music "music" and not just more background noise. 900 Watts... another joke. If this unit has 25 Watts of usable RMS I'd be very surprised, and from the weight of the amplifier section the Power Transformer could not be much larger than a walnut. As soon as you start to turn it up the speakers start booming and screaming and distortion becomes unbearable at 20-30% of its Maximum volume capabilities. If you wish to listen to it at "Normal" volume levels as I do you'll just hear MUSAC from the elevator. I was going to replace an older JVC HX-D77 or my Sony HCD-GTZ4i with this "BIGGER" and "MORE POWERFUL" system... not now, not ever. Without exaggeration, either one of them have 10 times the sound quality of this system, and at ANY volume level. I have a 10 year old AIWA boombox that only cost me $99.00 that sounds much better than this brand new Panasonic SC-AKX73. If you are considering buying this audio system might I suggest that you consider a different system... any OTHER system would probably be better (at least any other I have listened to). I have an old "Class A" Panasonic amp driving a set of 4 foot JBL Lab Monitors in the living room and those 400 Watts WILL shake the house down!!! Panasonic Corporation, what has happened to your quality? Do you still consider us audiophiles or are you now just selling to deaf-by-earbuds iPoders?
Sincerely, Lee Brown
