Panasonic PV-GS250 UV Filter size? huh?

May 11, 2005 5:11AM PDT

I'm confused,

I just ordered the Panasonic PV-GS 250 from Butterfly photo...and they told me the lens on the camera is 52mm and I will need an extra ring to convert to the 43 mm UV filter???

Then they offered to sell me a whole filter kit including this ring.

Yet the specs on the site say 43 mm lens...I don't get it... What's the size of the panasonic lens? What size UV filter do i need?

Don't buy any filters with the camera. Most people don't use

them anyway. Once you have the camera, then you can figure out the filters if you still want them. This is a favorite tactic of low ball stores. They try to sell you 'accessories' at hugely inflated prices. Don't buy any extra stuff.

Also the only place you would use the filter is outside.
Now a UV filter for film is a good, idea for video?? John

For protection

The UV filter shouldn't harm the video image (seems to be a recommended accessory at BH PhotoVideo also) but it will protect the expensive lens on the camera.
I think a Hoya UV filter is well worth to $20 or so to protect the lens. Which would you rather scratch unintentionally?
