I have the same question, just regarding the 50" monitor, new model coming out TH-50PHD8UK, vs 50" TV. Anybody out there with answers?
I continually read that the TH-42PHD7UY monitor is superior to the consumer TV versions of the same size. I don't understand why. I spoke to a Panasonic tech who explained that the displays were equal with respect to life and quality. She said that the commercial monitor was a ''Class A'' and created more interference. That didn't make sense if they are the same display. In addition, in home service is not available with the warranty. The consumer TV is a ''Class B'' with in home service on the warranty. The consumer model is not significantly more expensive when you consider that it includes the stand, HDMI, inputs in front, and speakers. I have a surround sound system, but I don't use it for everyday TV viewing. So what am I missing from all of the reviews and discussions I've read? In addition, what exactly do others mean when they complain that these plasmas don't have aspect control ratios for HD sources?
