Panasonic Lumix camera will ONLY record in internal memory

Mar 4, 2016 4:39AM PST

My Panasonic DMC FH27 camera which I love does not recognize when there's a memory card in it. The camera is known to use SDXC cards and currently I have an SDHC card which is compatible. I have used other compatible cards thinking one may be corrupt, but with same results. I've used new cards formatted and unformatted to no avail. The camera says "pictures will be recorded to built in memory." And I have two Lumix cameras with the same issue/problem, different model.

I assume you are trying to take a video.
See if the SDHC will work when taking a still picture.
If it will, the card may not be fast enough for video.
A Class speed of 6 or higher is required for video.

The card must be formatted by the camera before using the card.

Does the camera work with a SDXC card?

Hello snapshot2,
I am only wanting to take single photos, no video. I don't have a SDXC card, it has always worked with a SDHC for photos, and I always format the card. I've used other cards that are compatible according to Panasonic, and different cards of the same series, and new cards. I think it might be a physical flaw when inserting the card, a switch or some contact point when the card is inserted. Strange thing is both Lumix cameras of differing model numbers have the same issue...record in internal memory only. I'm hoping to get this resolved at this forum.

Since you are taking still shots, the speed of the card is not a problem.
If the camera(s) are still under one year old, it is time to talk to Panasonic Service,
as it/they would be under warranty.

I would get a SDXC card just to see if that card works.
It is possible that the camera does not see any card.

You can also try doing a factory reset.
The owners manual should tell you how to reset the camera to factory settings.
That can resolve some problems on a camera with many manual settings, like your camera.

Just to be sure --- when you format a card, always format the card with the camera, not the computer.
