I was not aware that these Panny DVR's, even though I own two, would not name the chapters. I have not had a need to use that type of feature.
To the best of my knowledge, the Panny's are better at editing than the other formats and DVR's. Maybe someone else can come up with a brand that does.
Unfortunately, if you want to do any serious editing of videos you need to do it in your computer.

I just purchased a Panasonic DMR-ES20 .. primarily to utilize the DV recording option to transfer data from my digital camcorder to DVD. The DV transfer process works great; however, I'm having an issue with editing. The DV transfer puts all data from a dubbing session into one 'TITLE'. It does also automatically create 'CHAPTERS' for each image break. The problem is that naming of text is only allowed at the TITLE level .. and I want to be able to enter names at the CHAPTER level .. to correspond with each change in video image. I've confirmed with the Panasonic Help Desk that this is not possible with this unit. Does anyone have suggestions for a workaround or know of another DVD Recorder with this editing capability?
