I am using the Panasonic DMW-MS2 with my new Panasonic GH3 for video.
Great kit, but unfortunately when the microphone is mounted on the camera as intended, it picks up noise from the lens. This happens as I move the camera about and the auto-focus operates when my subject distance varies. There is also some lens noise as the light level changes. This appears as an intermittent buzz...buzz....
I have tried holding the microphone close by the side of the camera by hand and the recorded lens noise level becomes acceptable. Move it a foot away and there is no noise. So it appears that the noise is being transmitted through the mount on the top of the camera and then through the rigid mount of the microphone. Setting the mic to shotgun or stereo makes no difference. Even having the mic pointing to the rear, away from the lens also records the lens noise.
The camera's built in microphones do not have any problem with this noise.
Can anyone suggest a bracket to attach the mic to the camera, which would not also transmit the lens noise?
