panasonic dmc fx-01k and dmc fx9k

May 10, 2006 8:39AM PDT

i was looking for a compact camera and i have more or less settled on panasonic (the mega optical image stabilization feature and the low price being the decision-making factors). However, Panasonic has two 6megapixel compact models and i am not sure what the difference is...the fx-01k is 349$ and the fx9k is 399$ i think the fx01k is newer but why is it cheaper? both have the same size and look the same as well.. can somebody pls tell me more about this?
thanks

Panasonic FX9k and FX01k

The k at the end just means black.
If you see an s, it is silver.

The FX01 is indeed the new replacement for the FX9.

There is one key difference.
The FX01 has a wide angle lens (28mm as opposed to the FX9 focal length of 35mm).

This is good.

The FX01 also has a higher ISO rating (1600).

Here is a comparison of specifications:

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=panasonic_dmcfx9%2Cpanasonic_dmcfx01&show=all

There is a full review of both cameras.
Look for the Green Links near the top of each specification column.

As for price.......it depends upon where you buy the camera. Some places want more for the FX01.
Shop around and take advantage of a good price.
