If the camcorders are similarly priced, with similarly sized lenses and imaging chips, miniDV tape continues to provide best available video quality (in DV/HDV) having the least amount of compression applied to the digital video stream. Consumer flash memory and hard disc drive camcorders generally use the same highly compressed MPEG2 (or AVCHD in the case of high definition) files... so in a non-tape environment, I would suggest flash memory rather than HDD...

I believe the Panasonic saves to .MOD files... We presume your editing process can take this into account.
