Palm Centro

by mwolfson8 / November 7, 2008 9:03 AM PST

I just got a Palm Centro from Verizon.
I got it because I it was a cheap alternative while I wait for the next generation of Android Phones and it is simple and the Palm software will do what I need which is keep my calendar and tasks.

I am having a problem. Seemingly randomly all the keys will lock-up. The touch screen will work just fine. Have had it less than a week. Did all the typical things - hard reset - take the battery out, reinstall everything ... blah blah blah ... if I get a call and answer it - I seem to be able to use the keys again.

This I have done that seem to spark the problem.
- Installing the micro SD card
- Hot sych data

Is this a pesistant problem - Verizon will give me about 20 more days to say this phone is crap, no questions asked and I can get another ...

Well, only 500. I author an application used by a company and what you write about can be caused by your choice of Palm Software. I know this since one of my softwares did capture the keyboard keys and thus created this issue. It was never released as a title so it's not my software at fault but it shows it could be.

So I'd call it busted if you did not install other software.

Centro buggy?
by mwolfson8 / November 8, 2008 9:14 AM PST

I am confused ... are you saying that the basic Palm software running the Centro is buggy and can freeze up the hardware if I install some application to the device?

So if I never add anything to it - I may be fine? or if you were me you would get another cell phone? I basically just want an easy to use calendar and task management ... however, since I like my gadgets I do also like to play with it I was planning on adding zlauncher or touchlauncher ... adding ringtones - so can you clarify your comment?

"are you saying that the basic Palm software running the Centro is buggy and can freeze up the hardware if I install some application to the device?"

No but if your application is buggy it can cause this issue.

"So if I never add anything to it - I may be fine?"

Again, sorry. If it does this without you adding software, the phone is busted.

"or if you were me you would get another cell phone?"

I'm a software author and was sharing a detail. No I would not get another make/model phone but I might say you want them to give you a good one.

I have tried to do that above.
