I am running xp pro/the cradle it sits in connect to the palm by a serial port but the wire that connects to my comp. has a usb end.I am going nuts

It sounds like you have hotsync set to Serial.

The m130 by default is connected with USB. Set Hotsync on PC and Palm to USB and Cradle/USB.

When I hit the hotsync button on my taskbar it is set to local usb but if I was to hit the setup buttom and go to local it comes up as a serial and asks if I want the com 1 or two.I have tried everthing possible and are at a loss.Do you think I should format it and start with another kind of program
I really appreciate the help
thx

What you want checked off. Unless Local is checked off as well (don't!) then it doesn't matter what you put in the Local setting.

Back on the Palm unit, try Cradle/Cable.
