Pal and ntsc, is this an issue for camcorders

Hi there,

First of all I'm posting from Australia. I am looking at buying a camcorder and it is much cheaper to buy from the US. My question is, do camcorders bought from the US differ from Australia in terms of shooting format? In Australia video is broadcast in PAL and the US its NTSC. Does this affect camcorders as well?
