Question

Painful wall wiring

Apr 16, 2015 2:57PM PDT

I need some help, I'm going nuts here. I proceeded to cut a hole in my wall to run some HDMI cables down to it from my attic. Of course Murphy's law kicked in and there is a wooden stud running horizontally in my townhouse wall. Perhaps this is the only one and I need to cut higher? Could there be several in my way and I'm screwed? Please, someone tell me that there is a tool out there that I can get to help me with this or someone has a suggestion for me. I will answer any questions about the details.

Is this for entertainment center?

If so, why go below the fireblock? Instead find where it is, cut out a small area of the drywall, insert an electrical box which will be hidden behind the TV or entertainment center.

If you live in a shared building, you could be dealing with fire code. You should check into that first as you may not be permitted to breach certain areas or may be required to seal them. You may also be required to use plenum rated wiring between floors. It appears you want the wire to be hidden or at least a neat installation. I do wonder if using raceways would be acceptable. These aren't invisible but look better than bare wire.
