Resolved Question

Page size

Nov 16, 2011 5:26PM PST

Hi Guys,

I am struggling with my page size. I am using a small but nice and easy program for me called "web site maker" which is really easy to use. The problem is that I am making my site on a 24" screen but when I view my site on a smaller screen you have to use the bottom slider to view the whole page.
I cannot seem to see any options within the program to make the size automatic to the screen size, any ideas as to what to look out for or what to use?

If you don't want people to use the horizontal slider, better use a display with the width (in pixels) set to size of the display (in pixels) that you want your customers able to be use without such a slider appearing.

800 pixels isn't much (that's the 800x600 screen commonly used 5 years ago). My screen here is 1280x1024 (1280 pixels wide) and that's a reasonable size to use.
But you'll see much professional sites that still play it safe. For example our leading Dutch news site http://www.nu.nl/ with me only uses the middle part of the screen, so supports displays less wide than 1280 pixels.

I'm afraid that the "easy to use" programs don't support such things. Time to find a professional designer to set up your site?

they may have a setting where you can adjust the overall width... sometimes.
