Page numbering problem in header

Aug 1, 2005 2:41AM PDT

I have written a play script, which must begin with unnumbered title and character pages, then be numbered sequentially act/scene/running page number in the upper right hand corner as 1-1-1. No matter how I try, when I change the act or scene number, it changes every such number before to the new number, e.g., when I reach 1-1-19 and want it to continue as 1-2-20, I change the "1" to "2" in the header, and it makes all previous pages into 1-2-x pages as well. How can I insert page numbering (starting on page 3 of the document) so that it will let me change acts and scenes, while keeping the running page numbers going? I am running Word in office 2000 under (depending on the computer) windows 2000 or Windows XP. Need help right away. Thanks!

You have (re)discovered why script writing software is still in demand.

Use sections.

Every section can have its own header with (according to your choice) page numbers continuing or starting with any page number (like 1) you should like. Your choice would be continuing page numbers, which is the default.
Of course, you would like your first two pages (= first section or first 2 sections maybe) to be without page numbers, and to start with page number 1 on thereafter.

Note to unclick the "same header as previous section" button, or they will change backwards!

Hope this helps.
