Page not availble 'reminder' driving me crazy

by looziebee / May 5, 2005 8:01 AM PDT

I received an outbreak alert from Norton a few days ago. I had to use Live Update to resolve the issue. Shortly after that (related or not), I started getting a window that says 'reminder' and the current date at the top, followed by a 'page not availble' blurb. This screen does not respond to a right click, nor does it have any action options available. I've been turning it off in the Windows Task manager. This happens at random times and seems to be getting more frequent (or maybe I'm just really, really sick of it). I get the message even when I'm not using Explorer.

I have windows XP with the SP2. I have a DSL line with a wireless modem with all the security stuff enabled (by someone who knew what he was doing -- NOT me). I'm running Norton Internet Security. I downloaded (with much difficulty) Spybot and cleaned everything it identified. I ran Trend Micro Housecall -- it found nothing. I tried to download adaware, but it hangs on the first download option or moves to a page not available screen with the secondary download option. As I mentioned, I had problems with downloading Spybot -- several hangs in the middle of the download and at least 1 page not available message (not the random screen, but the real thing) before I finally got it. Then it ran strangely and took 3 sessions to clear the junk (it would clear a few at a time, but not all).

Any insight would be appreciated. I've tried everything I can think of.

Popup seems to be gone
by looziebee / May 12, 2005 1:00 AM PDT

Sorry for the delay - was called out of town. I reran the norton scan and haven't seen the popup since. I still can't download ad-aware, so I'll remove the spybot and try again.
