You need to check your IE menu to see if the options of "let the website determine" is in the list. You should be able to edit what the site can do.
Let me rephrase that: You should be able to edit how the site is rendered onto your desktop.
I used Microsoft Word to design an email with a teal background, white text, and a very colorful business card. (Just painted the whole page one solid stationery color). Pasted it into Outlook 2007 and sent it. Have Outlook 2007 set to HTML (not rich text, or plain text). Yahoo sees the whole thing okay. But Hotmail will show everything but the teal background, which means the white text is invisible too since all email providers' default background color is white. Also tried making the same design in FrontPage. This was worse because the pasted in business card showed up as only a red "x". What am I doing wrong? Help! I have to come up with a classy looking design soon. Simple, but nice.
