Question

Packard Bell PC Imedia S2870 - Powers on but doesn't display

Apr 25, 2020 7:30AM PDT

So, when i power the machine on, the fans ramp up, then after around 10-15 seconds i get a continuous low tone for around a minute before it shuts off.

I've taken the CMOS battery out for 30 seconds before re-installing it. After i do this, the computer ramps up i get 2x short beeps and the machine remains on (Does not power off) But still doesn't display anything on the monitor, just a black screen.

I've removed and re-seated the ram, including testing each stick in each slot. - No affect.

I have removed the graphics card and just plugged in to the onboard VGA port on the MOBO.

Probably irrelevant but i had ordered an SSD and replaced the old HDD but these issues all arose prior to that. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
Looks like a PC from 2013.

Try a new CMOS battery, look in manual for a CMOS reset after that. Given the age and design I would not suggest replacing more parts. A replacement PC would be cheaper.

Hey

Thanks for the reply, sorry forgot to mention i did replace CMOS battery.

If it was my PC, it would be in the bin, but a friend is adamant he wants to keep this one. He's getting on a bit and stuck in his ways lol.
Hes found a MOBO and Power supply all for about £50. Was kind of hoping there might be something else i could try. Or something someone had seen before and could diagnose it as, say, the PS.
Thanks for the help though

That would be my next part to replace.

That is, the motherboard. Even the new(?) motherboard may have an old CMOS battery and they don't last forever. Cheap part and always a giggle(?) when owners want us to try other things first.
