Nope! No Way!

There is no way for a common individual without access to specialty equipment to remove and replace a CPU in any notebook computer. There might be some CPUs that are socketed, but most are solder-bound to the mainboard. I have never seen a Sony Vaio mainboard that had a CPU that was replaceable.

In addition, go to http://www.intel.com and review the chipsets required for each CPU. They are different, meaning that the mainboard needs to be replaced to support each CPU.

don't make it sound so impractical

"Common individual"? it just takes a little know how, you don't have to be a technician, "specialty equipment"? you can do it with a basic computer tool pack. And as far as I know, I have yet to see a standard notebook with a soldered on CPU, perhaps you are confusing it with a chipset or integrated gpu

I'm seeing more and more soldered in CPUs.

The days of the socketed CPU look to be numbered as prices keep falling the bucks for the socket make it a target for removal.
