P2P: Who's clean and who's dirty?

Feb 10, 2004 4:53PM PST

While I do not support the routine use of peer-to-peer, as it is one of the most prolific sources of virus distribution, this article is a must for those who do access it, as an aid in deciding which software and network is safer. http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p/

Lest anyone get the wrong impression

CLEAN P2P is still unethical, illegal and immoral.
While there may be some non-copyrighted material at CLEAN sites, I feel te vast majority go ther to steal.

Posting such a list is analogous to listing 24 hour convenience stores whose proprietors don't have a rifle behind the counter. Sort of like saying "hey, you can steal from this site without any guilt nor adverse side effects!!!"

Politics belongs at Speakeasy, not here

That list is compiled by one of the most respected security forums online, and only addresses the security issues involved with file sharing software. As such, it has a perfect right to be linked here.

If you have issues with peer to peer, take it up with those who provide the means and the networks, but don't use me as you're whipping boy.

And here's a personal message for you

I am getting sick of you attacking me whenever I post. You have made it plain for some time how much you hate me, which is too bad as I don;t give a toss about that.

From thios moment forwards, you don't like what I post, you do yourself a favour and walk on by, because if you ever attack me again, I will meet your assaults with the same venom and hostility you demonstrate towards me.

I think you misread me

I added that not as an attack, and apologize if it was viewed that way. I offered my opinion to those who might read a post and infer that clean can be equated with...well you know where this is going.
I admired the disclaimer you wrote at he start of your post "While I do not support the routine use of peer-to-peer..." and respected you for starting the thread that way.

I have no issue with you and have found your posts quite insightful (and very helpful). My only issue is with the prevailing attitute around the internet with respect to sharing.

Respectfully,
Larry
