Overwhelmed

Sep 7, 2005 1:24PM PDT

Normally when I am looking to buy a product I have no problems reading reviews and finding exactly what I want. However, I am severely overwhelmed by the hundreds upon hundreds of camera models and all the various features. I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a camera meeting my needs.

Price<$400
I will be taking pictures mostly outside of landscape features and vegetation.
Being able to see the LCD screen outside would be nice.
Doesn't have to be ultra compact but being compact is a plus.

I don't have much photography experience but would definately like to endulge in it. I was looking at the Olympus C-770 Ultra Zoom. Would that fit my needs and be something I could actually use?

I was also looking at the Kodak EasyShare CX7430, but I really don't know what I want. I became too quickly overwhelmed by all the models and pros and cons of each.

Thanks for any help.

Hi,
If you think about kodak it will be better to go for high zoom series viz. DX or Z series cameras.Canon Powershot A400 is also good.Canon 2S IS is the best, though I don't know the exact price.

Since you are looking at the Olympus C-770, you may want to wait a month or two. Olympus has announced the SP500 which will be in the stores in October.
It appears to be the replacement for the C-770 or C-765.

You said you want a compact camera, but the C-770 or any of the present big zoom cameras can really be called compact.

However

Nikon just announced a new compact 10X zoom camera.
It is compact due to its swivel design.

It should be available around the first of October.
